Volume 2, Number 15, Issue #41. November 15, 1996

Visit us online! (Well, you're here aren't you! -rr) We've finally registered our Internet domain name. Now you can visit our web page online at www.amicron.com. Now, we have to warn you - we just set it up, so it's very, very plain. We plan on spending some quality time in the near future setting it up properly (with all of our back issues too!) and we'll keep you updated.

Q: I just ran MemMaker to optimize my system's memory, and now I'm getting a "parity error." What do I do? > Tom, Hamburg NY A: Chances are you have a bad SIMM (memory) chip. MemMaker probably placed some device drivers or other bits of data into a region of your system's memory that wasn't being used before, and now DOS is reporting this error because there is a problem. Give us a call, and we can test your system's RAM to see which chip is faulty. Memory is fairly inexpensive right now (less than $10/MB). The alternative, of course, is to return your system to the way it was before you ran MemMaker (look for an AUTOEXEC.UMB and CONFIG.UMB and replace those with the appropriate boot files). If your system doesn't use that bad memory, there's no problem. > Don

Q: I have two printers in my office, and would like to be able to print to both of them. What are my options? > Jacqui, Amherst NY A: There are three basic options. The first, and least expensive, is to add an A/B switch and plug each printer into it. Then, you simply select which printer you want to use. There are also automatic switches which you select with software, but they're more expensive. Second, you could install a second parallel port (LPT2) in your computer. This will give you two ports to plug printers into. The last option is to hook the printer up to a second computer in your office and connect to it over a network. Networking PCs together is fairly inexpensive. All you need is two network cards, some cable, Windows For Workgroups, and the right expertise. If you'd like more information, call and request document #12153. > Rick
