Computer Instructors

If you are interested in a position as a computer instructor, we are currently seeking part-time, independent contractors to teach classes for us. Please read through the following Frequently Asked Questions, and if you're interested, fill out our Instructor Application (see below)

What kinds of classes will I need to teach? We offer a wide variety of computer classes. Mostly we are looking for people to teach Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, if you consider yourself an expert in any of the classes we offer, we may have a position for you. In fact, if you have knowledge of a topic we don't offer, we may be able to add it. Click here for our completely course list offering.

How much experience do I need? We will be favoring people with teaching experience before people with great technical experience. We are looking for someone who is good with people. Even if you aren't an expert computer technician, you can still be a good teacher if you're good with people.

Where are the classes held? Our Computer Training Center is located in Amherst NY. For directions, click here.

Do you have any full time positions? Right now, our classes run 3 hours long, and we generally offer 5 to 8 classes per week. This is about 15 to 24 hours of training. The reason why we don't offer more is because we only currently have one instructor (Richard). If we add more instructors, we can offer more classes - so hopefully in the near future, we'll have many more hours of training work per week to offer our instructors.

What is an independent contractor? We are not currently interested in hiring any employees. What we are looking for are independent computer professionals who we can sub-contract our training work to. Essentially, you will not be an employee of Amicron. You will be a self-employed professional, teaching at our facility - much like a doctor may make visits to a hospital to treat patients. You will be responsible for billing Amicron for your time, and you will also be responsible for reporting your own taxes. Amicron will issue you a 1099 tax form at the end of the year. If you have any questions regarding this, please email Richard.

How much do you pay? We are currently offering $20 per hour as a starting rate. The majority of our classes are 3 hours long, and we will pay you for 15 minutes before and after class, totalling $70 per class. We give surveys to all of our students, and depending upon your rating from our clients, we will negotiate accordingly every few months.

When are classes held? We have classes all over the calendar. We currently offer classes in the afternoons from 1pm to 4pm, and in the evenings from 6pm to 9pm. We occasionally hold morning or Saturday classes. Let us know whenever you're available to work. If you currently have another job and can only teach at night, that's fine. We can schedule classes for you to teach.

What other opportunities are available? If you're looking to pick up some extra income, we're always looking for talented sales reps. We receive a lot of leads from people looking for computer training. We get so many leads, in fact, that we can't get back to everyone. If you're interested in helping to sell training to fill the classroom, we would be willing to pay you on a commission basis. Indicate on the application form if you're interested in sales work. Our sales work is not cold-calling. Again, we get a lot of referrals - this is just calls to follow up with people who have already expressed an interest in our classes.

Who does the scheduling? We will put together the general training schedule. Again, if you let us know you're available on specific dates, and would like to teach a class, we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Who prepares the course material? We have all of our own pre-written course material that we have developed in-house. Some of our courses, like our Microsoft Access Database Developer course are extremely detailed. Others, like our PowerPoint course are much more at the instructor's discretion.

What's Next? If you are still interested, fill out our instructor application (see below). We will then contact you to possibly set up an interview. Before we make a decision, we would like you to sit through at least a portion of one of our live classes (on your own time), so you can get a feel for how we teach. We would also like to see you teach a mock 10-15 minute class.
