What is Web Hosting?

When you want to put a Web site on the Internet, you need to have a computer that is connected to the Net full-time. Since most people, and even most businesses, don't have a dedicated connection, companies such as Amicron lease space for Web sites on our server. This is called Web Hosting.

What is a Domain Name?

If you wish to have your own identity on the Web, an important step is to register a Domain Name. This is simply a name like amicron.com or microsoft.com. This is what people will type into their Web browsers to find your site. Your email will also be addressed to yourname@yourdomain.com. You do not need to register a domain name, however if you want your business to be taken seriously, it's an important step to take.

What Are Web-Only Packages

Some of our clients want their own custom web domains, but don't necessarily need custom email. Perhaps they already have an email account somewhere like yahoo.com or hotmail.com. Since a mail server is more difficult to setup and maintain, and takes more resources at our facility, we can offer a significant discount to organizations that need a web site, but don't require email. Note that this means we can't give out email addresses @yourdomain.com, but we can give you a single email address at amicron.com, emailbuffalo.com, or any of our other domains that Amicron owns.
